Description: Manages H3C Bandwidth Policy and Admission control objects for per-subscriber or per-flow rate enforcement.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-BPA-MIB?

HH3C-BPA-MIB is an H3C enterprise MIB for BGP Policy Accounting (BPA), used to classify and count IP traffic according to user-defined BGP policies on H3C routers. It exposes configuration objects defining accounting rules per interface/direction and statistics objects counting packets and octets against those policies, split by traffic type and index. Its monitoring value is primarily software/traffic accounting rather than hardware health: administrators watch packet and octet counters to confirm BGP-classified traffic flows are behaving as expected or to detect unexpected shifts. It builds on standard BGP concepts and the interface MIB (IF-MIB) for associating accounting with physical or logical interfaces. It is typically deployed on H3C core/edge routers doing traffic engineering or classification of inbound/outbound BGP-policy-tagged traffic. Engineers can download the HH3C-BPA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-BPA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C routers (BGP-capable)

Monitoring Examples

hh3cBpaCfgTable/hh3cBpaCfgEntry configure accounting per hh3cBpaDirection and hh3cBpaSrcOrDest, while hh3cBpaStatTable/hh3cBpaStatEntry expose hh3cBpaInPacketCount, hh3cBpaInOctetCount, and hh3cBpaOutPacketCount indexed by hh3cBpaTrafficType and hh3cBpaTrafficIndex. An admin polling these counters over time can detect an unexpected surge in a particular BGP-policy traffic class, indicating a routing change or a customer exceeding expected traffic volume.

What Can Be Monitored

  • inbound packet count per traffic class
  • inbound octet count per traffic class
  • outbound packet count per traffic class
  • accounting direction/source-destination configuration

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hh3cBpaInPacketCount OID:

Select an H3C router, BGP-capable (BGP Policy Accounting) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hh3cBpaInPacketCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The total number of received packets with the specified traffic type and traffic index. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
