Description: H3C MIB for Smart Link management providing sub-second link failover and load balancing in access ring topologies.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-SMLK-MIB?

H3C-SMLK-MIB manages H3C's "Smart Link" feature, a fast-convergence dual-uplink redundancy mechanism designed as an alternative to slower Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) convergence in access-ring topologies. It exposes Smart Link group tables defining preemption mode/delay, a speed threshold for switchover decisions, the control VLAN used for link-state signaling, and per-group port tables identifying the primary/secondary uplink ports. This is a hardware/link-redundancy status MIB: administrators use it to verify which uplink is currently active, whether preemption back to a preferred link is pending, and to receive traps the moment a failover between primary and backup uplinks occurs. It's an H3C proprietary alternative/complement to standard STP-based MIBs (e.g., BRIDGE-MIB), not dependent on them but serving a similar redundancy purpose. It's deployed on H3C access switches in ring or dual-homed topologies where sub-second failover is required, such as metro Ethernet access rings. Engineers can download the H3C-SMLK-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-SMLK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C access switches (ring/dual-uplink topology)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll h3cSmlkGroupTable/h3cSmlkGroupEntry (by h3cSmlkGroupID and h3cSmlkDeviceID) to check h3cSmlkPreemptionMode and h3cSmlkPreemptionDelay, confirming whether the group is configured to automatically revert to the primary uplink after it recovers. Checking h3cSmlkPortTable would show which port is currently forwarding versus blocked within the Smart Link group, and h3cSmlkSpeedThreshold indicates the link-speed floor that triggers a failover decision. An h3cSmlkTrap notification firing indicates the active uplink just switched, which the NOC would correlate with any reported ring outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active/backup uplink port state
  • preemption mode and delay
  • link speed threshold
  • control VLAN ID
  • Smart Link failover traps

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cSmlkFlushCount OID:

Select an H3C access switch, ring/dual-uplink topology (Smart Link redundancy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cSmlkFlushCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of transmitted flush messages. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
