Description: H3C MIB for Shortest Path Bridging (SPB/IEEE 802.1aq) managing IS-IS based L2 fabric topology and services.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-SPB-MIB?

H3C-SPB-MIB is an H3C proprietary MIB for managing Shortest Path Bridging (SPB, IEEE 802.1aq), an IS-IS-based Layer 2 fabric technology that replaces spanning tree with shortest-path forwarding across a mesh of bridges, commonly used for data-center and campus fabrics. It exposes system-wide SPB status, per-interface SPB status and multicast B-VLAN status, per-service (I-SID) table entries mapping services to base VLANs and forwarding modes, and system ID conflict detection. For monitoring, the most operationally important objects are h3cSpbSysStatus and h3cSpbIfStatus (confirming the SPB control plane and individual links are up and participating correctly) and h3cSpbConflictSysID, which flags a duplicate system ID — a serious fault that can cause topology instability in the fabric. It is built on and depends on IS-IS routing as its underlying control protocol and interacts with standard 802.1Q VLAN/bridge MIBs for the base VLAN model. It is deployed in H3C data-center switches building SPB-based Layer 2 fabrics as an alternative to traditional spanning-tree networks. Engineers can download the H3C-SPB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-SPB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C data-center fabric switches supporting SPB (802.1aq)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check h3cSpbSysStatus for overall fabric health, then walk h3cSpbIfTable (h3cSpbIfEntry) to confirm each participating interface reports h3cSpbIfStatus as operationally up, catching a link that has silently dropped out of the SPB topology. The h3cSpbSrvTable (h3cSpbSrvEntry), keyed by h3cSpbSrvTableEntryTopIx and h3cSpbSrvTableEntryIsid, would be polled to verify a given service's h3cSpbSrvTableEntryBaseVid and h3cSpbSrvTableEntryMode match the intended service design. A non-zero h3cSpbConflictSysID would immediately flag a duplicate bridge system ID somewhere in the fabric, a condition that can cause widespread forwarding instability if left unresolved.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SPB system status
  • per-interface SPB status
  • I-SID to base-VLAN service mapping
  • multicast B-VLAN status
  • system ID conflicts
