Description: H3C MIB for Fibre Channel Name Server managing device registration, lookup, and directory service entries.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB?
H3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB is an H3C (Hangzhou Huawei-3Com, now part of HPE/New H3C) proprietary MIB for managing the Fibre Channel Name Server function on storage-area network switches. It exposes configuration and state data related to FC device registration and lookup, including local switch World Wide Name (WWN) identity, fabric login (FLOGI) port WWNs, and notification controls for port login/logout events. Its monitoring value centers on fault/event visibility rather than classic hardware counters: it lets an administrator track when Fibre Channel devices log in or out of the fabric name server, which reveals connectivity flaps, unexpected device disconnects, or unauthorized device attachment on the SAN fabric. This module depends on the underlying Fibre Channel Name Server standard (ANSI T11 FC-GS) concepts and complements standard Fibre Channel management MIBs. It is typically deployed on H3C/HPE Fibre Channel SAN switches used in storage networking environments, where administrators typically start with an H3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB download to load the module into their SNMP management tools.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C/HPE Fibre Channel SAN switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would enable h3cFcNsPortLoginNotifyEnable and h3cFcNsPortLogoutNotifyEnable to receive traps whenever a device performs FLOGI/FLOGO against the h3cFcNsLocalSwitchWWN-identified switch, and inspect h3cFcNsFloginPortWWN to identify which specific device WWN logged in. Frequent unexpected logout/login notification pairs for the same port WWN would reveal a flapping SAN link or failing HBA. This MIB is oriented around name-server event/notification monitoring rather than throughput counters.
What Can Be Monitored
- FC port login/logout events
- local switch WWN identity
- fabric login port WWN
- name server notification status
