Description: H3C MIB for Fibre Channel ping operations testing connectivity between FC nodes in a SAN fabric.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-FC-PING-MIB?
H3C-FC-PING-MIB is an H3C proprietary MIB for performing Fibre Channel ping operations, testing basic connectivity and round-trip reachability between nodes in a Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) fabric. It exposes a configuration/control table for initiating pings, covering target VSAN, address type and address, packet count, payload size, timeout, and age interval, plus an administrative status object to trigger the test and reported delay statistics. It is primarily a diagnostic/active-testing MIB used to verify SAN fabric software/link health on demand, letting an administrator confirm whether a remote FC node is reachable and measure round-trip delay, a key indicator of fabric connectivity problems. It is specific to Fibre Channel SAN environments and complements, but is independent of, any standard FC management MIBs used for passive fabric monitoring. It is deployed on H3C Fibre Channel switches/directors used in SAN fabrics. Engineers can download the H3C-FC-PING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-FC-PING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C Fibre Channel switch/director
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would populate h3cFcPingTable/h3cFcPingEntry (indexed by h3cFcPingIndex) with h3cFcPingVsan, h3cFcPingAddressType, and h3cFcPingAddress, set h3cFcPingAdminStatus to initiate the test, then read back h3cFcPingDelay to confirm round-trip latency to a target FC node. A ping that times out per h3cFcPingTimeout despite a healthy-looking fabric would indicate a connectivity fault on that specific VSAN path.
What Can Be Monitored
- FC ping round-trip delay
- FC ping administrative/test status
- target VSAN and address configuration
- ping packet count and payload size
- ping timeout and age interval settings
