All MIBs › GMPLS-TC-STD-MIB
Organization: IETF Common Control and Measurement Plane (CCAMP) Working Group
Last Updated: 2007-02-28
Category: MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Textual Conventions and Registries
Description: Defines textual conventions for Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) management, imported by other GMPLS-related MIB modules.
IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring GMPLS-TC-STD-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.
What Is GMPLS-TC-STD-MIB?
GMPLS-TC-STD-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards MIB, defined in RFC 4801, that itself contains no monitorable data objects -- it exists solely to define shared TEXTUAL-CONVENTIONs (data type definitions) used by other GMPLS-related MIB modules, such as GMPLS-LABEL-STD-MIB and GMPLS-TE-STD-MIB. As a pure textual-convention module it does not expose interface, environment, performance, or fault data of its own. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its value is purely as a shared type-definition dependency that keeps GMPLS-related object definitions consistent across the family of GMPLS MIBs. It is foundational to the broader GMPLS MIB suite defined by the IETF (RFC 3471 and related documents) and is imported wherever GMPLS concepts like label types or switching capabilities need a common data type. It is typically 'deployed' only indirectly, as a dependency loaded on any device implementing GMPLS-related MIBs such as optical/packet transport routers and switches, per the GMPLS-TC-STD-MIB RFC that defines these shared conventions.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GMPLS-TC-STD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- GMPLS-capable optical/packet transport equipment (indirectly, as a type-definition dependency)
Monitoring Examples
This module is a pure textual-convention (type-definition) MIB with no runtime data objects of its own -- sample_objects is empty and it defines no tables or scalars to poll. Its role is limited to supplying shared data types (e.g., for label or interface switching capability representations) that other GMPLS MIBs, like GMPLS-LABEL-STD-MIB, import and use in their own object definitions, so no monitoring scenario applies directly to this module.
