Category: MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE
Description: Provides HP/Comware-specific extensions to standard MPLS MIBs for additional LSP and tunnel monitoring.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-MPLSEXT-MIB?
This MIB provides HP/Comware-specific extensions to the standard MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) MIBs, adding vendor-specific label-switch-router (LSR) and LDP (Label Distribution Protocol) status objects not covered by the IETF MPLS MIBs. It belongs to the HP/H3C ICF family and exposes both scalar identity information (the device's LSR ID) and per-interface tables tracking LDP session capability and status. Its monitoring value is in confirming the software-level health of the MPLS control plane: hpnicfMplsExtLdpStatus and the per-entry hpnicfMplsExtLdpCapability/Index fields let an operator verify that LDP sessions are established and label distribution is functioning on each MPLS-enabled interface, with a down or capability-mismatched entry signaling an LSP that won't come up. It is explicitly designed to extend the standard IETF MPLS-LSR-MIB and MPLS-LDP-MIB, layering HP-specific attributes like MTU and RowStatus-controlled entries on top. It is deployed on HP/Comware routers and switches participating in an MPLS network as label-switching routers, and administrators typically load its definitions into an HPN-ICF-MPLSEXT-MIB MIB Browser to inspect these objects directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-MPLSEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/Comware MPLS-enabled router/switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would read hpnicfMplsExtLsrID to confirm the router's LSR identity and hpnicfMplsExtLdpStatus for overall LDP health, then drill into hpnicfMplsExtLdpTable/hpnicfMplsExtLdpEntry (indexed by hpnicfMplsExtLdpIndex) to check hpnicfMplsExtLdpCapability per interface. The main hpnicfMplsExtTable/hpnicfMplsExtEntry rows, indexed by hpnicfMplsExtIndex, expose hpnicfMplsExtCapability, hpnicfMplsExtMtu, and hpnicfMplsExtRowStatus, so a row stuck in a non-active RowStatus or an unexpectedly small MTU would explain why a particular LSP fails to establish across that interface.
What Can Be Monitored
- LSR ID
- LDP session status
- per-interface LDP capability
- MPLS interface MTU
- MPLS extension row/interface status
