Description: GNOME project Structure of Management Information MIB providing OID registrations for open-source network tools.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GNOME-SMI?
GNOME-SMI is not a functional monitoring MIB but a Structure of Management Information module that establishes the OID registration point for the GNOME open-source desktop project's enterprise branch, used purely to reserve a namespace under which any GNOME-related SNMP objects would be defined. It exposes no monitoring tables or scalars itself, serving only as the root/identity node from which other GNOME-associated MIB modules could, in principle, branch their own object definitions. Because it defines no data objects, it has no bearing on monitoring hardware or software status of any device — it is purely an administrative OID assignment. It has no functional dependency on other MIBs beyond the standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions used to define any enterprise arc. It would only be referenced by other, as-yet-unspecified GNOME-related MIB modules importing this OID root, rather than being polled directly by monitoring systems, since the GNOME-SMI MIB itself defines no data objects that could be monitored directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GNOME-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral OID registration module, not tied to any specific device or manufacturer
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only an OID registration root and contains no runtime data objects, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; it would only ever be imported by other MIBs needing an OID arc under the GNOME enterprise number.
