Description: GMPLS-LABEL-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GMPLS-LABEL-MIB?

GMPLS-LABEL-MIB is an IETF standards-track, vendor-neutral MIB defining managed objects for labels used within Generalized MPLS (GMPLS) systems, part of the broader IETF GMPLS/MPLS-TE MIB family. It exposes a label table covering different label types and subtypes, including generic freeform labels, port/wavelength labels for optical/DWDM interfaces, and SONET/SDH virtual-container labels. It is primarily a control-plane configuration/state monitoring MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB, letting an operator verify that label assignments on GMPLS-capable interfaces match provisioning and detect label-type mismatches that would break a GMPLS-signaled path. It explicitly belongs to the GMPLS MIB suite alongside modules like MPLS-TE-MIB and GMPLS-TE-MIB, and it relies on IF-MIB for identifying the associated interfaces. It is typically deployed on GMPLS-enabled optical, SONET/SDH, or wavelength-switching routers in service-provider transport networks. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the GMPLS-LABEL-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GMPLS-LABEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • GMPLS-enabled optical/SONET/SDH transport router or switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll gmplsLabelTable (via gmplsLabelEntry/gmplsSublabelIndex) and check gmplsLabelType/gmplsLabelSubtype together with gmplsPortWavelengthLabel to confirm a given interface's assigned wavelength matches its provisioned lambda. Checking gmplsSonetSdhSignalIndex and gmplsSdhVc would similarly reveal whether a SONET/SDH virtual-container label is correctly mapped, with a mismatch signaling a misconfigured or failed label-switched path.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GMPLS label type and subtype assignment
  • wavelength label per port
  • SONET/SDH virtual-container label mapping
  • freeform label values
