Category: Switch Management

Description: Manages Power over Ethernet (PoE) port configuration and monitoring on GBN switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GBNDevicePoe-MIB?

GBNDevicePoe-MIB is a vendor enterprise MIB (mounted under the ADMIN-MASTER-MIB gbnDevice branch) that manages Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability on GBN-branded switches. It exposes a poePowerSupplyTable reporting PoE firmware version, power-supply status, configured power limit, and actual power consumption at the chassis level, a poePortTable giving per-port power limit and consumption in milliwatts, and a poePdPortTable that surfaces real-time versus configured PD (powered-device) enable state per port. A poeFanControlTable additionally exposes fan speed thresholds by temperature band (low/middle/high), manual fan-speed overrides, and live fan-speed/temperature telemetry, tying PoE thermal management into the same MIB. Because PoE budget and thermal headroom are closely linked on compact switches, this MIB is useful for correlating power draw against fan response and catching over-budget or overheating conditions, and it is deployed on GBN PoE-capable access switches for GBNDevicePoe-MIB SNMP monitoring of power and thermal state.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GBNDevicePoe-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • GBN PoE-capable switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls poeDevicePowerConsume against poeDevicePowerLimit to check overall PoE budget headroom, and cross-references poePortTable's per-port powerConsume values with poeTemperature and poeFan1Speed/poeFan2Speed; power consumption approaching the limit combined with rising temperature and static fan speed would indicate the fan-control policy is not responding to thermal load.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis PoE power limit/consumption
  • per-port PoE power consumption
  • PD enable state per port
  • fan-control temperature thresholds
  • live fan speed
  • chassis temperature
