Category: Quality of Service, Vendor: Dell

Description: Dell Force10 Networks QoS MIB providing objects for managing quality of service policies, traffic classes, and queue statistics on FTOS devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FORCE10-QOS-MIB?

FORCE10-QOS-MIB is Dell Force10 Networks' proprietary MIB for FTOS-based switches/routers, providing objects to configure and monitor Quality of Service (QoS) policies, including policy-maps applied to interfaces and traffic classification/queueing behavior. It exposes general categories of configuration data: a per-interface policy-map association table, a global policy-map definition table (name, direction, honoring behavior), and WRED profile limits, alongside a version identifier for the QoS MIB itself. This is primarily a configuration/policy-status MIB — an admin uses it to confirm which QoS policy-map is applied to a given interface and in which direction (ingress/egress), verifying the software-level traffic-management configuration is active as intended, rather than reporting hardware component health. There is no strong external MIB dependency beyond standard SNMP SMI conventions, though it works alongside IF-MIB for ifIndex-based interface correlation. It is deployed on Dell Force10 FTOS switches/routers in data-center and enterprise networks requiring per-interface traffic prioritization and congestion management (WRED), where FORCE10-QOS-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms the right policy-maps are bound to the right interfaces.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FORCE10-QOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell Force10 FTOS switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll f10QosIfPolicyMapTable/Entry, keyed by ifIndex and f10QosIfPolicyMapIndex, to confirm which QoS policy-map is applied to a specific interface and check f10QosIfPolicyMapRowStatus to verify the binding is active. Cross-referencing f10QosPolicyMapTable/Entry (f10QosPolicyMapName, f10QosPolicyMapDirection, f10QosPolicyMapHonoring) reveals the actual classification rules and directionality of that policy. If an interface's f10QosIfPolicyMapTable entry is missing or its row status is not active, that would explain why traffic on that link isn't receiving its expected QoS treatment despite the policy-map being defined globally.

What Can Be Monitored

  • policy-map applied per interface
  • policy-map direction (ingress/egress)
  • policy-map honoring behavior
  • WRED profile limits
  • policy-map row/binding status
