What Is ASCEND-MIBBWALLOC-MIB?

ASCEND-MIBBWALLOC-MIB is an Ascend Communications (later Lucent) vendor-specific MIB, auto-generated for TAOS-based WAN access equipment, that manages bandwidth allocation profiles and traffic shaping for ATM/WAN interfaces. It exposes per-profile traffic shaper parameters in mibbandwidthAllocProfile-TrafficShapersTable (bandwidthAllocProfile-TrafficShapers-BitRate, -PeakRate, -MaxBurstSize, -Aggregate, -Priority), per-slot upstream bandwidth allocation limits in mibbandwidthAllocProfile-BandwidthConfigTable (AllowMaxUpStreamBandwidth, AllowGuaranteedUpStreamBandwidth), ATM VPI/VCI range assignment per slot in mibbandwidthAllocProfile-SlotVpiVciRangeTable, and live bandwidth statistics in mibbandwidthStatsProfileTable (bandwidthStatsProfile-ActiveUpstreamBandwidthOnTrunks, -StandbyUpstreamBandwidthOnTrunks). This is useful for verifying that configured VC-level shaping matches policy and for tracking real-time upstream bandwidth consumption across active and standby trunks on WAN aggregation equipment. It depends on ASCEND-MIB for the parent configuration subtree, and administrators can download the ASCEND-MIBBWALLOC-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ASCEND-MIBBWALLOC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ascend Communications TAOS-based WAN access/aggregation equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls bandwidthAllocProfile-TrafficShapers-BitRate and -PeakRate for a given slot/VC shaper profile to confirm configured rates match the service contract, then checks bandwidthStatsProfile-ActiveUpstreamBandwidthOnTrunks; upstream utilization consistently near the configured maximum would indicate the trunk is approaching capacity and traffic may soon be shaped or dropped.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-VC traffic shaper bit rate / peak rate / burst size
  • per-slot guaranteed and maximum upstream bandwidth
  • ATM VPI/VCI range configuration per slot
  • active vs standby trunk upstream bandwidth
