Description: Extreme Networks MIB for trap polling configuration, enabling periodic polling of trap-generating conditions on ExtremeXOS devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EXTREME-TRAPPOLL-MIB?

EXTREME-TRAPPOLL-MIB is an Extreme Networks proprietary MIB implementing "SmartTraps" trap-based polling, a feature on ExtremeXOS switches that periodically polls certain conditions and generates traps when thresholds or state changes occur. It exposes configuration objects for defining which conditions/objects are polled, at what interval, and how resulting trap notifications are generated. As a monitoring-configuration MIB, it lets an administrator configure and verify automated polling of device conditions -- effectively a meta-monitoring capability that turns periodic status checks, which could include port state or resource thresholds, into proactive trap notifications, reducing the need for constant manual polling. It is a self-contained Extreme Networks proprietary extension but functionally depends on whatever underlying MIB objects are configured as poll targets, since it wraps arbitrary OIDs with polling and trap-generation logic. It is typically deployed on Extreme Networks ExtremeXOS switches where administrators want the switch itself to proactively notify the NMS of state changes on selected objects rather than relying solely on external polling. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the EXTREME-TRAPPOLL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-TRAPPOLL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Extreme Networks ExtremeXOS switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module. An administrator would typically configure a poll target OID, polling interval, and threshold/trigger condition, then rely on the resulting SmartTraps notification to be alerted automatically when the polled condition changes state, avoiding the need for the NMS to continuously poll that object itself, though specific object names cannot be cited here.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured poll target object/OID
  • polling interval
  • trigger/threshold condition for trap generation
  • SmartTraps notification status
