Description: Extreme Networks MIB providing hardware inventory, environmental sensor, and chassis component status for Extreme switches and routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is EXTREME-HARDWARE-MIB?

EXTREME-HARDWARE-MIB is an Extreme Networks registration MIB that defines OID identifiers for specific Extreme hardware entities (chassis, modules, and components), used as values for the entPhysicalVendorType column of the standard ENTITY-MIB's entPhysicalTable. It does not itself define monitorable scalars or tables of hardware status; rather, its role is purely to provide vendor-specific type identifiers so generic entity-inventory tools can recognize exactly which Extreme hardware component (e.g., a specific chassis or module model) is installed. It therefore contributes indirectly to hardware status monitoring - it makes entity inventory data meaningful, but the actual status polling (operational state, presence/removal) happens via the standard ENTITY-MIB rather than this module. Its dependency is explicit and central: it exists solely to extend and be referenced by the IETF ENTITY-MIB. It is used across the full range of Extreme Networks switch and router hardware wherever entity/inventory management is enabled. Engineers can download the EXTREME-HARDWARE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-HARDWARE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Extreme Networks switch/router hardware (chassis and modules)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only OBJECT IDENTIFIER assignments for Extreme hardware entity types, not runtime tables, so it has no independent polling scenario of its own. In practice, an NMS walking the standard entPhysicalTable would see entPhysicalVendorType values populated from this MIB's OID tree to identify exactly which Extreme chassis or module is physically present.
