Description: Defines textual conventions for extended SNMP agent capability declarations used in augmented MIB modules.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EXTENDED-CAPABILITIES-TC?
EXTENDED-CAPABILITIES-TC is not a vendor device MIB but a textual-convention (TC) support module defining a provisional convention for identifying extended SNMP agent capability declarations, intended for use by other AGENT-CAPABILITIES-style modules. It defines no runtime data objects of its own; it only supplies type definitions used within other MIBs' conformance/capability statements. Because it contains only textual-convention type definitions with no OID-addressable data, it is not something an agent can be polled for and has no uptime, temperature, CPU, or other monitorable attributes — its role is purely definitional support for other modules' capability statements. By design it is imported by other MIB modules that need to express extended agent capabilities, making it a shared dependency of those modules rather than a dependent itself. It is used at MIB-authoring/compilation time rather than in live device polling, so it has no direct deployment context of its own on a running device. Engineers can download the EXTENDED-CAPABILITIES-TC file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTENDED-CAPABILITIES-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- not tied to a specific device — a textual-convention support module used by other MIBs, not itself pollable on any device
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only textual conventions (data types) rather than any OID-addressable objects, so it exposes nothing to poll and there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe. It exists solely so other MIB modules can import its type definitions when declaring extended agent capabilities.
