Category: Vendor: Ericsson

Description: Monitors environmental conditions including temperature, fan speed, and power supply status on Ericsson routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-ENVMON-MIB?

ERICSSON-ROUTER-ENVMON-MIB is Ericsson's proprietary environmental monitoring MIB for its SmartEdge/SM/SSR router families, providing a generic mechanism to track physical environmental health across network devices. It exposes fan and power-supply status tables, giving per-unit descriptors, failure flags, and current operational status for each fan and power module in the chassis. This directly supports hardware health monitoring: eriRouterFanFail/eriRouterFanStatus and eriRouterPowerFail/eriRouterPowerStatus let an operator detect a failed or degraded fan or power supply before it leads to overheating or a device outage, and the module also defines notifications (eriRouterEnvMonMIBNotifications) so agents can proactively trap on these failures. It is a standalone, vendor-specific MIB but conceptually parallels IETF/vendor "environmental monitor" MIBs used elsewhere in the industry, rather than formally importing from one. It is typically deployed in service-provider central offices and PoPs where continuous uptime of Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR routers depends on redundant, monitored cooling and power infrastructure. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-ENVMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-ENVMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
  • Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet Service Transport platform

Monitoring Examples

An NMS would poll eriRouterFanStatusTable/eriRouterFanStatusEntry, indexed by eriRouterFanIndex, checking eriRouterFanFail and eriRouterFanStatus alongside eriRouterFanDescr to identify which specific fan module has failed. Similarly, polling eriRouterPowerStatusTable for eriRouterPowerFail/eriRouterPowerStatus per eriRouterPowerIndex reveals a failed power supply unit, prompting a technician to swap the redundant module before a second failure causes an outage. A trap from eriRouterEnvMonMIBNotifications correlated with these table entries would confirm the exact failed component in real time.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fan operational status
  • fan failure flag
  • power supply operational status
  • power supply failure flag
  • fan/power unit description
  • environmental failure notifications
