Category: Technology: VPN, Vendor: Ericsson

Description: Manages logical interface-to-context bindings for multi-context VPN and routing instance configuration on Ericsson routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-BIND-MIB?

This is an Ericsson MIB for managing logical interface-to-context bindings on Ericsson routers (SmartEdge/SSR family), used to configure multi-context VPN and routing instance associations for circuits. It exposes configuration data through a bind table that maps a circuit to a bind type, context, authentication context, service group, and access control list, plus authentication credentials (password, CHAP/PAP settings) for the binding. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration/operational status of circuit-to-context bindings, letting administrators confirm a circuit is bound to the correct VPN context and that authentication (CHAP/PAP) is configured as expected, rather than hardware sensor data. No dependency on another standard MIB is indicated; it is a self-contained Ericsson router configuration MIB, generally used alongside other Ericsson router MIBs for full router management. It is deployed in service-provider networks running Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR routers with multi-context (VRF-like) configurations for subscriber or VPN circuits. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-BIND-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-BIND-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll eriRouterBindTable / eriRouterBindEntry, checking eriRouterBindContext and eriRouterBindCircuit to confirm a given circuit is bound to the intended VPN/routing context, which is critical after a provisioning change that could otherwise leak traffic into the wrong context. Checking eriRouterBindAuthChap and eriRouterBindAuthPap settings against eriRouterBindAuthContext helps diagnose authentication failures on a bound circuit, and eriRouterBindMIBNotifications would alert on binding state changes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • circuit-to-context binding
  • bind type and service group
  • CHAP/PAP authentication configuration
  • ACL applied to a bound circuit
