Description: Enterasys Networks MIB for creating and mapping MIB-II layer 3 interfaces to VLANs on Enterasys products.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ENTERASYS-VLAN-INTERFACE-MIB?
ENTERASYS-VLAN-INTERFACE-MIB is an Enterasys Networks proprietary MIB that manages the creation of standard MIB-II Layer 3 interfaces and their mapping to VLANs on Enterasys switches, enabling VLAN routing/SVI-style configuration. It exposes a table mapping each VLAN interface entry to a VLAN ID and an ifIndex, plus row-status and storage-type controls for creating or removing these mappings, along with a lookup table for reverse VLAN-to-index queries. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration-state visibility: confirming how many VLAN interfaces are currently configured versus the device's maximum, and verifying that each VLAN ID is correctly bound to the expected Layer 3 ifIndex for routing purposes. It explicitly builds on and extends the standard MIB-II interfaces model (IF-MIB/RFC 1213) by adding VLAN association. It is used on Enterasys Layer 3 switches and routers that route between VLANs. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-VLAN-INTERFACE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-VLAN-INTERFACE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Enterasys/Extreme Networks Layer 3 switches and routers
Monitoring Examples
An admin would check etsysVlanInterfaceCurrentEntries against etsysVlanInterfaceMaximumEntries to see how close the switch is to its VLAN-interface capacity limit before creating a new routed VLAN. Walking etsysVlanInterfaceTable/etsysVlanInterfaceEntry and cross-referencing etsysVlanInterfaceVlanID with etsysVlanInterfaceIfIndex confirms a given VLAN is bound to the correct Layer 3 interface, and etsysVlanInterfaceRowStatus reveals whether an entry is active or stuck in a notReady/notInService state after a failed configuration attempt.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN interface count vs. maximum
- VLAN ID to ifIndex mapping
- interface row status
- storage type of VLAN interface entries

RFC description
Enterasys Networks MIB module for managing dynamic creation and mapping of MIB-II interfaces to Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), enabling VLAN interface configuration and monitoring on Enterasys network switches.
Start monitoring Enterasys/Extreme Networks Layer 3 switch/router (VLAN-to-interface mapping) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
