Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: Enterasys/Cabletron
Description: Enterasys Networks MIB for committing persistent SNMP configuration data to non-volatile storage on demand.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ENTERASYS-SNMP-PERSISTENCE-MIB?
This Enterasys Networks enterprise MIB gives management applications a way to explicitly commit in-memory SNMP configuration changes to non-volatile (persistent) storage on the device, rather than relying on automatic periodic saves. It exposes a persistence mode setting, a save trigger object, and status/timestamp/error objects reflecting the outcome of the last save operation. Its monitoring value is squarely operational/software status: polling etsysSnmpPersistenceStatus and etsysSnmpPersistenceStatusTime after triggering etsysSnmpPersistenceSave confirms whether the configuration was actually written to flash, while etsysSnmpPersistenceError and etsysSnmpPersistenceErrorTime reveal a failed save (e.g., due to storage exhaustion), critical to avoid silent configuration loss on reboot. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB with no dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed on Enterasys/Extreme switches and routers as part of automated configuration-management workflows. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-SNMP-PERSISTENCE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-SNMP-PERSISTENCE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Enterasys/Extreme Networks switch or router
Monitoring Examples
A configuration-management tool would set etsysSnmpPersistenceSave to trigger a commit, then poll etsysSnmpPersistenceStatus and etsysSnmpPersistenceStatusTime until it reports success, confirming the running configuration was saved to non-volatile storage before a planned reboot. If etsysSnmpPersistenceError is non-zero, the tool would alert that the last save attempt failed, preventing an unnoticed loss of configuration changes.
What Can Be Monitored
- persistence mode setting
- save-triggered status
- time of last save status change
- last save error code
- time of last error

RFC description
Vendor-private MIB for Enterasys network devices, managing SNMP configuration persistence and state storage.
Start monitoring Enterasys Networks switch (legacy, later Extreme Networks)/router (SNMP config persistence to flash) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
