Category: SNMP Framework, Vendor: ESO Consortium

Description: Defines SNMP management objects for ESO Consortium network equipment and services.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ESO-CONSORTIUM-MIB?

ESO-CONSORTIUM-MIB is an IETF/enterprise registration module maintained by the ESO Consortium, an umbrella organization that registers not-yet-standardized SNMP security modules, providing common naming and OID assignment for authentication and privacy protocol extensions to the SNMP User-based Security Model (USM, RFC 3414). Rather than exposing device telemetry, it defines identifier values intended to be used as usmUserAuthProtocol and usmUserPrivProtocol settings, essentially acting as a registry of cryptographic algorithm identifiers for SNMPv3 security. It therefore has no role in monitoring hardware or software operational status; its relevance is purely to the SNMPv3 security configuration layer that underlies secure access to all other MIBs. It has an explicit, direct dependency on the SNMP-USER-BASED-SM-MIB (RFC 3414). It is used across any vendor's SNMPv3 agent implementation that needs to reference non-standard authentication or privacy protocols registered by the ESO Consortium. Engineers can download the ESO-CONSORTIUM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ESO-CONSORTIUM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • any SNMPv3-capable network device

Monitoring Examples

This module contains no sample runtime objects; it is purely a registration point defining OID identities for authentication/privacy protocols to be referenced elsewhere (e.g., as values of usmUserAuthProtocol). There is no monitoring scenario associated with it -- it is consulted only when configuring or interpreting SNMPv3 USM security protocol identifiers.
