Description: Enterprise monitoring device MIB for managing environmental and infrastructure monitoring sensors and their thresholds.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EMD-MIB?
EMD-MIB is a vendor-specific Raritan MIB for the EMX Environmental Monitoring Device, used to manage environmental sensor infrastructure in data centers. It exposes device identity and network configuration (name, MAC address, IP/netmask/gateway), hardware and firmware version, and counts of physically attached versus actively managed external sensors. It strongly supports monitoring both hardware status (device hardware/firmware version, network reachability) and environmental sensor health, since a mismatch between total and managed external sensor counts can reveal a disconnected or failed probe, with trap definitions available for sensor-related alerts. Being a Raritan-specific environmental device MIB, it likely complements Raritan's PDU/rack PDU MIBs used in the same data center racks. It is typically deployed in data center or telecom equipment racks to monitor temperature, humidity, or other environmental conditions. Engineers can download the EMD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EMD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Raritan EMX Environmental Monitoring Device
- data center rack environmental sensor hub
Monitoring Examples
deviceName, hardwareVersion, and firmwareVersion identify the EMX unit and confirm it is running current firmware; externalSensorCount and managedExternalSensorCount tell an admin how many environmental probes are physically attached versus actively managed, and a mismatch could indicate a disconnected or failed sensor. deviceInetAddressType/deviceInetIPAddress/deviceInetNetmask/deviceInetGateway confirm the unit's network configuration, and traps under the trapInformation branch would notify an operator of an environmental fault such as a temperature excursion in the monitored rack.
What Can Be Monitored
- device hardware/firmware version
- external sensor count (physical vs managed)
- device network configuration (IP/netmask/gateway)
- device MAC address
- environmental sensor trap conditions
