Description: Eltex MES PHY MIB for monitoring physical layer parameters, auto-negotiation status, and PHY diagnostic data on MES ports.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ELTEX-MES-PHY?
ELTEX-MES-PHY is a vendor-specific MIB from Eltex providing physical-layer (PHY) diagnostic objects for MES-series switch copper ports, most notably a TDR (Time-Domain Reflectometry) cable diagnostic test. It exposes a TDR test result table reporting, per twisted pair (1 through 4) within a cable, a status such as open, short, or ok, and an estimated cable length/fault distance. Its monitoring purpose is direct hardware-health diagnostics: per-pair status from eltPhyTdrTestPair1Status through Pair4Status combined with eltPhyTdrTestPair1Length through Pair4Length pinpoints a cabling fault and its physical distance from the switch port, invaluable for diagnosing a port that won't link up due to a bad cable rather than a device fault. It complements the standard IETF IF-MIB/EtherLike-MIB physical-layer objects by adding vendor-specific cable-diagnostic capability not present in those standards. It is deployed on Eltex MES-series switches wherever copper Ethernet cabling needs field diagnosis, such as troubleshooting a port that won't come up. Engineers can download the ELTEX-MES-PHY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-PHY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES-series switches
Monitoring Examples
A technician triggers a TDR test on a suspect port and polls eltPhyTdrTestTable/eltPhyTdrTestEntry, checking eltPhyTdrTestResultIsValid to confirm the test completed, then reading eltPhyTdrTestPair1Status through Pair4Status; a short or open result on one pair combined with its corresponding eltPhyTdrTestPair length pinpoints roughly how far down the cable run the fault is located, letting the technician find and fix the bad cable segment instead of replacing the switch.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-pair cable fault status (open/short/ok)
- per-pair estimated fault distance/cable length
- TDR test result validity
