Description: Eltex Structure of Management Information MIB defining the OID hierarchy and enterprise registration for Eltex products.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ELTEX-SMI?

ELTEX-SMI is Eltex Networks' Structure of Management Information module, the foundational MIB that defines the enterprise OID hierarchy and top-level registration point under which all of Eltex's product-specific MIBs (media converters, multiplexers, access equipment) are organized. Alongside pure structural definitions, this particular module also bundles a set of generic trap/alarm objects (state, parameters, description, and ID fields) used across Eltex's various product trap definitions such as the mc240, omsOperation, and mp800mk families. Its monitoring role is therefore twofold: as an SMI it has no monitorable data itself, but the shared trap objects it defines are the common building blocks used to signal hardware/software alarm and restore events across Eltex's device lines. It underlies and is imported by essentially all other Eltex product MIBs, making it a dependency root rather than a standalone monitoring module. It is used across Eltex's telecom access, multiplexing, and media-conversion equipment deployed in service-provider and enterprise access networks, and engineers typically open an ELTEX-SMI MIB Browser view to inspect its full OID hierarchy before working with the dependent product MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eltex Networks access, multiplexing, and media-conversion equipment

Monitoring Examples

While ELTEX-SMI itself is primarily a structural/enterprise-registration module, its shared trap objects mcTrapID, mcTrapDescr, and mcTrapExState are used by product-specific trap groups like mc240AlarmTraps/mc240OkTraps and mp800mkAlarmTraps to report and clear alarms; an NMS would correlate an mcTrapID with mcTrapRestoredAlarmID to determine whether an alarm on a given Eltex device (e.g., an mc240 media converter) has since cleared. Because most of the sample objects reflect shared trap plumbing rather than device-specific data tables, this MIB's practical monitoring use is mainly as the common alarm-notification vocabulary other Eltex MIBs build on.

What Can Be Monitored

  • alarm/trap state and description
  • alarm ID and restored-alarm correlation
  • per-product alarm/OK trap events

RFC description

Defines the Structure of Management Information (SMI) root for Eltex Networks enterprise products, establishing OID namespace for Eltex vendor-specific MIB modules.

Start monitoring Eltex Networks access, multiplexing, and media-conversion equipment (root SMI + shared trap objects) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
