Description: Eltex MES Unidirectional Link Detection MIB for detecting one-way link failures and disabling affected ports automatically.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ELTEX-MES-ULD-MIB?
ELTEX-MES-ULD-MIB is a vendor MIB from Eltex covering the Unidirectional Link Detection (ULD) feature on its MES-series switches, a mechanism similar to Cisco's UDLD that detects one-way (unidirectional) link failures on fiber/copper links. Based on its sample objects, the module is organized around a management branch and a notifications branch for this feature. Its monitoring value is primarily fault-detection oriented: it is designed to alert administrators when a link is found to be unidirectional (able to send but not receive, or vice versa) so the affected port can be automatically disabled before it causes a network loop, making it a software-driven fault/status monitoring feature rather than a general performance or environmental MIB. It is conceptually related to standards-track and vendor UDLD-style mechanisms though implemented independently by Eltex, and works alongside the switch's standard interface (IF-MIB) status objects. It is deployed on Eltex MES-series Ethernet switches in enterprise/carrier access networks where loop prevention on uplinks is important, with the ELTEX-MES-ULD-MIB MIB defining the management and notification objects behind that protection.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-ULD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES-series Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
Only the top-level eltMesULDMgmt (management/configuration branch) and eltMesULDNotifications (notification branch) were available in the sample objects, so detailed per-port table names cannot be confirmed here. An administrator would rely on eltMesULDNotifications traps to be alerted when the ULD feature detects a unidirectional link, and would consult objects under eltMesULDMgmt to confirm whether the feature is enabled and how it is configured on affected ports; receiving such a notification would reveal a one-way fiber/copper fault that could otherwise cause a switching loop.
What Can Be Monitored
- unidirectional link detection status
- ULD notifications/traps
- ULD feature management configuration
