Description: Eltex MES CPU tasks utilization MIB for monitoring per-task CPU usage and system process load on MES switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ELTEX-MES-CPU-TASKS-UTIL-MIB?

ELTEX-MES-CPU-TASKS-UTIL-MIB is an Eltex enterprise MIB for the MES series of Ethernet switches, providing fine-grained visibility into per-task CPU utilization on the device's control-plane processor. It exposes a statistics table keyed by task index and name, reporting each software task's CPU utilization over the last 5 seconds, the last minute, and the last 5 minutes, gated by an overall enable object. This is explicitly a software-health MIB for CPU load monitoring: it lets an operator see not just aggregate CPU usage but which individual process or task (e.g., a routing protocol daemon or management process) is consuming CPU, which is invaluable for diagnosing a switch that is unresponsive or dropping packets due to control-plane overload. It is a self-contained Eltex product MIB with no notable dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the general SNMP framework. It is deployed on Eltex MES access/aggregation switches in service provider and enterprise networks where administrators need to isolate the cause of high CPU utilization. Engineers can download the ELTEX-MES-CPU-TASKS-UTIL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-CPU-TASKS-UTIL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eltex MES series Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would first set eltCpuTasksUtilEnable to true to activate collection, then walk eltCpuTasksUtilStatisticsTable to see each eltCpuTasksUtilStatisticsTaskName alongside its eltCpuTasksUtilStatisticsUtilizationDuringLast5Seconds, ...LastMinute, and ...Last5Minutes values. If overall switch CPU is high, this table would pinpoint whether a specific task, such as a logging or protocol process, is the culprit rather than a general load spread across the system. Sustained high utilization on one eltCpuTasksUtilStatisticsTaskIndex over the 5-minute window would justify escalating to the vendor or restarting that process.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-task CPU utilization (5-second)
  • per-task CPU utilization (1-minute)
  • per-task CPU utilization (5-minute)
  • task name/index enumeration
  • CPU task monitoring enable status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using eltCpuTasksUtilStatisticsUtilizationDuringLast5Seconds OID:

Select an Eltex MES-series Ethernet switch (per-task CPU utilization) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type eltCpuTasksUtilStatisticsUtilizationDuringLast5Seconds into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the percentage of the device CPU task utilization during last 5 seconds. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if utilization exceeds 85%, a common warning threshold before sustained high load affects performance. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
