Description: Eltex MES syslog MIB for managing syslog server destinations, message severity filters, and logging facility configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ELTEX-MES-SYSLOG-MIB?

ELTEX-MES-SYSLOG-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Eltex for configuring and monitoring the syslog subsystem on MES-series switches, including CPU-side rate limiting of syslog message generation and event-specific logging controls such as VRRP state-change events. It exposes a CPU rate-limiter table controlling how many syslog messages the CPU will emit to avoid a logging flood, a VRRP event logging table enabling/disabling specific VRRP event notifications, and a user-command logging enable flag. Its monitoring role is software/operational status oriented: eltSyslogCPURateLimiterEnabled confirms whether the device is actively throttling its own log output, which if unexpectedly enabled could mean important messages are being dropped during a fault storm, and eltSyslogEventsVRRPEventEnabled/Index confirm which VRRP failover events are being logged so operators can trust that a VRRP failover was actually captured in the log. It complements standard SNMPv2-MIB-style logging conventions with Eltex-specific controls rather than replacing them. It is deployed on Eltex MES-series switches in enterprise networks where centralized syslog collection and VRRP high-availability are both in use, and administrators can download the ELTEX-MES-SYSLOG-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-SYSLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eltex MES-series switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks eltSyslogCPURateLimiterTable/eltSyslogCPURateLimiterEntry (by eltSyslogCPURateLimiterIndex) to confirm eltSyslogCPURateLimiterEnabled is not throttling messages during a troubleshooting window, since an enabled rate limiter could hide the very syslog messages needed to diagnose a fault. eltSyslogEventsVrrpTable/eltSyslogEventsVrrpEntry (by eltSyslogEventsVRRPEventIndex) is checked to confirm eltSyslogEventsVRRPEventEnabled is set so that a VRRP master/backup transition actually gets logged, and eltSyslogUserCmdEnable confirms whether administrative CLI commands are being logged for audit purposes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • syslog CPU rate limiter status
  • VRRP event logging enablement
  • user command logging enablement
  • syslog event index configuration
