Description: Manages IP layer configuration and routing objects specific to Dell network switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-rlIP-MIB?

Dell-rlIP-MIB is a private enterprise MIB module used on Dell networking switches (its 'rl' prefix reflects the RapidCity/switch-management lineage common to Dell's managed switch line) to represent Layer 3 IP addressing information rather than general chassis health. It exposes a table of configured IP addresses per interface, including address family/type, the address value itself, how the address was assigned (manual, DHCP, SLAAC, etc.), its associated prefix, and lifecycle timestamps for when each entry was created or last changed. In terms of monitoring hardware/software status, its main value is tracking configuration-state health: whether an interface's IP address entry is active, deprecated, duplicate, or tentative, and detecting unexpected re-addressing events via the change timestamp rather than reporting CPU, temperature, or power metrics. It mirrors object patterns from the standard IETF IP-MIB/INET-ADDRESS-MIB address table, so it is effectively a Dell-proprietary counterpart layered on those conventions. It is typically deployed by network management systems polling Dell enterprise switches to audit IPv6/IPv4 address assignment and catch addressing misconfigurations. Engineers can download the Dell-rlIP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-rlIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell enterprise network switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls rlIpAddressTable / rlIpAddressEntry, indexed by rlIpAddressIfIndex, to enumerate every address configured on a switch interface along with its rlIpAddressAddrType and rlIpAddressAddr. Cross-referencing rlIpAddressStatus with rlIpAddressCreated and rlIpAddressLastChanged flags an address that recently transitioned to an invalid or duplicate state, which can indicate an addressing conflict introduced by a misconfigured neighbor. rlIpAddressOrigin further distinguishes manually assigned addresses from those learned via DHCP or IPv6 stateless autoconfiguration, helping isolate whether an unexpected address change was operator-driven or protocol-driven.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP address assignment status
  • address origin (manual/DHCP/SLAAC)
  • address creation/last-changed timestamps
  • interface-to-address mapping
  • address prefix and type
