Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for Dell LAN switch events and status changes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-LAN-TRAP-MIB?

This Dell private MIB defines the common trap/notification structure used by Dell LAN switch event notifications, rather than a table of polled runtime state. It exposes trap metadata fields including severity, source, sequence number, and timestamp that accompany other Dell trap definitions. It is fundamentally a fault/event-reporting mechanism: severity classification lets a management station distinguish minor informational events from critical hardware or software faults, and the sequence number and timestamp let an operator correlate and de-duplicate repeated trap deliveries. It functions as an extension to the standard SNMP notification framework (SNMPv2-MIB/NOTIFICATION-TYPE conventions), supplying shared varbinds for other Dell traps. It is deployed on Dell LAN switches that send event notifications to a central network management station or trap receiver. Engineers can download the Dell-LAN-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-LAN-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell network switch (PowerConnect/N-Series family)

Monitoring Examples

Because this MIB primarily defines the varbind objects carried inside traps rather than a polled table, there is no scalar or table an admin polls directly; instead a management station receives traps containing dellTrapSeverity, dellTrapSource, dellTrapSeqNum, and dellTrapTimeStamp. An operator would use dellTrapSeverity to prioritize incoming alerts and dellTrapSeqNum to detect gaps or duplicate deliveries. Repeated high-severity traps from the same dellTrapSource in a short window would flag a recurring device fault needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trap event severity
  • trap source identification
  • trap sequence number
  • trap timestamp
