Category: Domain: Network Management, Vendor: Dell

Description: Provides management interface configuration and status objects for Dell network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-MNGINF-MIB?

Dell-MNGINF-MIB is a Dell proprietary MIB that manages the management-interface access control feature on Dell switches, controlling which IP addresses or networks are permitted to access the device's management plane and via which interfaces/services. It exposes an access-list table defining permitted source addresses, network masks, applicable services, and allow/deny actions, along with global enablement and active-list selection. Its monitoring value is on the software/security-configuration side, letting an operator audit which management-access policy is currently active and verify its rules, which directly affects who can reach the switch's SNMP, Telnet, SSH, or web management services. It is a self-contained vendor MIB conceptually related to standard access-control-list concepts but implemented independently. It is deployed on Dell PowerConnect/Networking switches to restrict management-plane access as a security hardening measure. Engineers can download the Dell-MNGINF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-MNGINF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect/Networking switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check rlMngInfEnable and rlMngInfActiveListName to confirm whether management access restriction is enabled and which named list is currently enforced, then inspect rlMngInfListTable/rlMngInfListEntry (indexed by rlMngInfListName/rlMngInfListPriority) for rlMngInfListIpAddr, rlMngInfListIpNetMask, rlMngInfListService, and rlMngInfListAction to audit exactly which source addresses and services are permitted or denied. This is useful for confirming a security policy change (e.g. restricting SNMP access to a NOC subnet) actually took effect on the device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • management access control enable state
  • active access list name
  • access list entries (source IP, mask, service, action)
  • list entry priority
