Description: Manages DHCPv6 client address acquisition and configuration on Dell network switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Dell-DHCPv6-CLIENT?
This Dell private MIB (part of the 'rl'-prefixed PowerConnect/N-Series lineage) manages DHCPv6 client behavior on switch interfaces, supporting IPv6 address and prefix acquisition. It exposes per-interface configuration for stateless versus stateful (prefix-delegation) DHCPv6 modes and information-refresh timer settings. It supports monitoring of the software/management-plane status of IPv6 provisioning: whether DHCPv6 client is supported and enabled on an interface, and whether information-refresh events are occurring on schedule, both of which reveal whether an interface's IPv6 configuration is being maintained correctly. It complements the standard DHCPv6 protocol (RFC 3315) and ties to interfaces via ifIndex, depending on the device's base interface MIB. It is typically deployed on Dell switches in IPv6-enabled network environments needing DHCPv6-based address or prefix provisioning on uplink or management interfaces. Engineers can download the Dell-DHCPv6-CLIENT file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-DHCPv6-CLIENT. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Dell network switch (PowerConnect/N-Series family)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls rlDhcpv6ClientTable/rlDhcpv6ClientEntry, keyed by rlDhcpv6ClientIfIndex, to check rlDhcpv6ClientPd and rlDhcpv6ClientStateless and confirm which DHCPv6 mode an interface is using. Comparing rlDhcpv6ClientInfoRefreshReceived against rlDhcpv6ClientInfoRefreshMin and rlDhcpv6ClientInfoRefreshConf shows whether the interface is refreshing its DHCPv6 information on the expected schedule. A stalled or missing refresh would suggest the interface has lost contact with its DHCPv6 server.
What Can Be Monitored
- DHCPv6 client enabled/supported state per interface
- prefix delegation status
- stateless vs stateful client mode
- information-refresh timer and last-received time
