What Is Dell-VRTX-DHCPCL-MIB?

This private MIB module manages DHCP client behavior on a Dell PowerEdge VRTX chassis switch module, built on the RAD/"rl"-prefixed embedded switch OS common to several Dell-branded switching products. It exposes per-interface DHCP client action/status data and a DHCP approval mechanism that lets an administrator review and approve DHCP-assigned addresses before they take effect. As monitoring/status data it surfaces DHCP client action status per interface (rlDhcpClActionStatus), the assigned host name (rlDhcpClActionHostName), and a waiting-approval table showing address, mask, and gateway pending administrator sign-off -- useful for confirming whether a management interface obtained a valid address or is stalled. It works alongside standard IETF interface and IP addressing MIBs since DHCP client status is tied to a specific ifIndex. It is deployed on the management/network interfaces of Dell VRTX chassis switch modules where DHCP is used for automatic address assignment requiring administrative approval before activation. Engineers can download the Dell-VRTX-DHCPCL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-VRTX-DHCPCL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP client action status per interface
  • assigned host name
  • DHCP approval enabled/disabled
  • addresses awaiting approval
  • pending address, subnet mask and gateway

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerEdge VRTX chassis switch module

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll rlDhcpClActionTable/rlDhcpClActionEntry keyed by rlDhcpClActionIfIndex to see the current rlDhcpClActionStatus and rlDhcpClActionHostName for the management interface, confirming whether a DHCP lease was successfully obtained. If rlDhcpApprovalEnabled is set, the rlDhcpApprovalWaitingTable would be checked for entries stuck awaiting approval (rlDhcpApprovalWaitingAddress, rlDhcpApprovalWaitingGateway) which would explain why an interface has not come up with a usable IP address. A stalled or empty status here typically indicates a DHCP server reachability problem or an unapproved lease blocking connectivity.
