Category: Protocol: DHCP, Technology: IPv6, Vendor: Dell

Description: Manages DHCPv6 server operation, prefix delegation, and lease management on Dell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-DHCPv6?

Dell-DHCPv6 is Dell Networking's proprietary MIB for managing DHCPv6 server, client, and relay operation, including prefix delegation and lease management, on Dell switches. Its object naming (the "rl" prefix, suggesting RedLine/Broadcom-derived switch software) exposes separate scalar groups for common, client, and relay DHCPv6 functionality plus DUID-related configuration. Its status-monitoring role is software/service oriented: whether the DUID-based client identification, client feature, and relay feature are enabled indicates whether the switch is actively providing DHCPv6 services rather than reporting on physical sensors. It parallels the standard DHCPv6 protocol defined in RFC 3315 conceptually, though it is implemented as a private enterprise MIB rather than a standards-track one. It is deployed on Dell Networking switches (PowerConnect/Force10-descended platforms) providing DHCPv6 relay or server functionality in IPv6-enabled campus or data-center networks. Engineers can download the Dell-DHCPv6 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-DHCPv6. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell Networking switch (PowerConnect/Force10 series)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks rlDhcpv6DuidEn to confirm DUID-based client identification is active, then inspects the objects grouped under rlDhcpv6Relay to verify the relay agent is correctly forwarding client requests toward the configured DHCPv6 server, while rlDhcpv6Client and rlDhcpv6Common group objects confirm the client-side feature and shared configuration parameters are set as expected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCPv6 DUID enable status
  • DHCPv6 client feature status
  • DHCPv6 relay feature status
  • DHCPv6 common configuration parameters
