Description: Provides the SNMP Dynamic Program Interface (DPI) for extending SNMP agents with dynamically loaded sub-agents.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DPI-MIB?
DPI-MIB (labeled 'ZXROS DPI MIB' in its module description) is a ZTE proprietary MIB implementing a Dynamic Program Interface, a mechanism that lets ZTE's ZXROS network operating system load and register additional sub-agent functionality (signatures/subservices) into the SNMP agent at runtime rather than requiring a firmware rebuild. It exposes a signature symbol table and a subservice table that catalog the dynamically registered components, plus system-control and configuration-mode objects that govern how the DPI subsystem operates. Its monitoring relevance is mainly about software/agent extensibility status: an operator can confirm which signatures/subservices are currently loaded via dpiSignatureSymbolTable and dpiSubserviceTable, and check dpiSystemControl/dpiConfigMode to see whether the DPI feature is enabled and in what mode, which matters when troubleshooting a missing or misbehaving SNMP sub-feature rather than classic hardware sensors. It depends on ZTE's own ZXROS platform MIB conventions (the zte enterprise OID branch) rather than any IETF standard. It is deployed on ZTE ZXROS-based routers and switches, primarily in carrier and enterprise networks using ZTE network equipment. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the DPI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DPI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZTE ZXROS-based router/switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would query dpiSignatureSymbolTable and dpiSubserviceTable to enumerate which dynamically loaded modules/signatures are currently registered with the SNMP agent, useful when a particular sub-feature (e.g., a newly added protocol handler) isn't responding as expected. dpiSystemControl and dpiConfigMode would be checked to confirm the DPI subsystem itself is enabled and running in the intended mode before troubleshooting further down the signature/subservice tables.
What Can Be Monitored
- loaded signature/subservice modules
- DPI system control/enable state
- DPI configuration mode
