All MIBs › EIP-STATS-MIB
Category: Domain: Security, Network Monitoring (RMON), Technology: Traffic Monitoring
Description: Enterprise internet protection statistics MIB for collecting traffic, attack, and filtering statistics on EIP platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EIP-STATS-MIB?
This enterprise MIB provides traffic and service statistics for an "EIP" internet edge/security appliance, tracking usage counters for key network services it protects or proxies. It exposes generically-named statistic tables for DNS, DHCP, and DHCPv6 activity, each entry pairing a named counter with its current value, allowing flexible reporting of query counts, error counts, or lease activity without a rigid schema. Its role in device monitoring is service/software status and performance counter tracking: it lets an operator see whether DNS and DHCP/DHCPv6 services on the device are actively processing traffic and at what volume, which can reveal a service outage (zero counts) or an anomalous spike suggestive of an attack or misconfigured client storm. There's no clear dependency on external standard MIBs, appearing to be a self-contained named-counter design specific to this platform. It is deployed on security/edge gateway appliances that provide DNS and DHCP services as part of broader internet protection functionality. Engineers can download the EIP-STATS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EIP-STATS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- internet edge/security gateway appliance
Monitoring Examples
An admin walks eipDnsStatTable/eipDnsStatEntry, reading each eipDnsStatName/eipDnsStatValue pair to track DNS query or error counters and detect a sudden drop indicating the DNS service has stopped responding. Monitoring eipDhcpStatTable and eipDhcp6StatTable counters can reveal an unusual spike in DHCP lease requests, which might indicate a rogue client or a broadcast storm on the network segment served by the appliance.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS query/error counters
- DHCP lease/request counters
- DHCPv6 lease/request counters
