All MIBs › DLMOD-MIB

Category: Protocol: SNMP

Description: Manages dynamically loaded SNMP modules (dlmod) in Net-SNMP agent, tracking loaded module names and paths.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLMOD-MIB?

DLMOD-MIB is a Net-SNMP agent extension MIB, not tied to any hardware vendor, that manages the agent's own "dlmod" dynamic module-loading subsystem, letting administrators load compiled shared-object extensions into a running snmpd process without recompiling. It exposes a table of configured modules, each with its name, filesystem path, load status, and any error text produced during loading. Its monitoring value is squarely software status: it reports whether each configured extension module is loaded, unloaded, or has errored, giving direct visibility into the health and extensibility state of the SNMP agent process itself rather than into device hardware sensors. It depends on the base SNMPv2-SMI/SNMPv2-CONF conventions and is specific to the Net-SNMP (UCD-SNMP lineage) agent implementation. It is typically deployed on Linux/Unix servers and network appliances running Net-SNMP wherever custom monitoring extensions are dynamically loaded. Engineers can download the DLMOD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLMOD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Linux/Unix server or network device running the Net-SNMP agent
  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB extension, not tied to a specific hardware manufacturer

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll dlmodTable/dlmodEntry, indexed by dlmodIndex, reading dlmodName and dlmodPath for each configured module alongside dlmodStatus and dlmodError; a dlmodStatus showing a failed or unloaded state instead of loaded, together with a populated dlmodError message, reveals that an extension module failed to initialize (e.g., a missing shared library). dlmodNextIndex would be read before adding a new module entry via an SNMP SET.

What Can Be Monitored

  • loaded module name and file path
  • module load status (loaded/unloaded/error)
  • module load error message
  • next available module index
