What Is DDN-WOS-MIB?

DDN-WOS-MIB is the SNMP MIB for DataDirect Networks' Web Object Scaler (WOS), an object storage platform used for large-scale, geographically distributed unstructured data storage. It exposes performance counters and system notifications for the storage cluster, covering both throughput/latency statistics and event-driven traps. For hardware/software status monitoring, it is heavily oriented toward performance health: read/write/delete latency (wosStatsReadLatency, wosStatsWriteLatency, wosStatsDeleteLatency), throughput (wosStatsReadThroughput, wosStatsWriteThroughput), and operation rates (wosStatsFRPS, wosStatsFWPS, wosStatsFDPS -- file read/write/delete per second), alongside trap objects (wosTrapDesc, wosTrapSeverity, wosTrapType, wosTrapLocation) that report faults and abnormal conditions as they occur. It is a self-contained vendor-specific SMIv2 MIB with no notable external MIB dependencies beyond standard SNMP notification conventions. It is deployed in enterprise and service-provider data centers running DDN WOS object storage clusters, where operations teams monitor latency/throughput trends and receive real-time trap alerts for storage-node faults. Engineers can download the DDN-WOS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DDN-WOS-MIB. Monitoring Examples

An operations team would poll wosStatsReadLatency and wosStatsWriteLatency alongside wosStatsReadThroughput/wosStatsWriteThroughput to trend storage cluster performance, flagging a problem when latency spikes while throughput drops. Separately, they would subscribe to wosNotifications and inspect incoming traps' wosTrapSeverity and wosTrapType fields, with wosTrapLocation identifying the affected node, to get immediate alerts on hardware or cluster faults. A sustained rise in wosStatsFDPS (file deletes per second) combined with rising delete latency could indicate a bulk cleanup job overloading the cluster.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using wosStatsReadCount OID:

Select a DataDirect Networks (DDN) Web Object Scaler (WOS) storage cluster as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type wosStatsReadCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of read transactions since the last cluster restart. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
