What Is DC-MGMD-MIB?

DC-MGMD-MIB is an Arris proprietary MIB managing MGMD (Multicast Group Membership Discovery, IGMP/MLD proxy) on Arris broadband access platforms. Its entity table, keyed by index, records admin/operational status and row status, a major-join table records interface ID, partner index, row status, admin/operational status, and join status, and a static-group table records entity type, ifIndex, group/source address type and address, status, and storage type, alongside a router-interface table. As a configuration/status MIB it lets an administrator confirm which interfaces are actively joined to a multicast group and audit statically configured multicast groups. It is deployed on Arris broadband access platforms running MGMD. Engineers can download the DC-MGMD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using mgmdPmRouterInterfaceJoins OID:

Select an Arris broadband access platform (MGMD multicast) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type mgmdPmRouterInterfaceJoins into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of times a group membership has been added on this interface; that is, the number of times an entry for this interface has been added to the Cache Table. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
