Category: Network Management

Description: Monitors ClusterX server cluster health, node membership, and failover status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ClusterX-MIB?

ClusterX-MIB is a vendor server-clustering MIB used to expose trap-based notifications about cluster node membership, resource, and failover status for a high-availability server cluster product. It defines module version/vendor identification objects (clxMibStatsMajRev, clxMibStatsMinRev, clxMibStatsVendorName) alongside a rich set of trap varbinds carrying cluster event details -- node name, cluster name, resource name/type, severity, network, and event date/time. Its principal use is fault and status monitoring: when a cluster resource fails over, a node leaves/joins the cluster, or a resource changes state, the trap's data objects (clxTrapDataNodeName, clxTrapDataClusterName, clxTrapDataResourceName, clxTrapDataResourceType, clxTrapDataSeverityValue) tell an NMS which cluster component was affected and how severe the event is, functioning as a software/hardware cluster health-status feed rather than a polled counter table. No explicit dependency on standard IETF MIBs is indicated; it appears to be a self-contained enterprise notification schema. It would be deployed in enterprise data centers running clustered/high-availability server software, feeding cluster failover and resource-status events into a central monitoring console, making ClusterX-MIB SNMP monitoring a core piece of high-availability fault detection in the data center.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ClusterX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • clustered/high-availability server systems (ClusterX-managed clusters)

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring station receiving a ClusterX trap would extract clxTrapDataClusterName and clxTrapDataNodeName to identify which cluster/node raised the event, clxTrapDataResourceName/clxTrapDataResourceType to identify the affected clustered resource, and clxTrapDataSeverityValue plus clxTrapEventDate/clxTrapEventTime to gauge urgency and timing -- a high-severity trap naming a resource that has failed over would indicate an unplanned node failure in the cluster.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cluster node status
  • cluster resource name/type
  • failover/event severity
  • event date/time
  • cluster name
  • affected network
