Category: Hardware and Environment, Vendor: Aastra

Description: Manages Aastra GIM (Generic Interface Module) hardware configuration, port assignments, and module status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXGIM-MIB?

CXGIM-MIB is an Aastra (formerly Ericsson/network access vendor lineage) private MIB for managing the Generic Interface Module (GIM) hardware used in access/transport platforms, covering port assignment, service access point (SAP) configuration, and module-level routing. It exposes objects describing SAP type, alias, companion alias, address, and link/administrative state, along with throughput class and packet size settings, plus a system route table. This MIB is directly useful for monitoring hardware module status: gimSapState and gimSapLinkState reveal whether a given port/service access point on the GIM hardware module is operationally up or down, which is central to detecting a failed or misconfigured line card. It appears self-contained to the GIM platform's own object model (gimMibLevel) without an explicit dependency on external IETF interface MIBs, though it parallels concepts in the standard IF-MIB. It is deployed in Aastra/Ericsson access network platforms where GIM cards provide physical port connectivity that needs to be monitored for state and throughput. Engineers can download the CXGIM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXGIM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aastra Generic Interface Module (GIM) card
  • access/transport network platform

Monitoring Examples

An administrator walking gimSapTable/gimSapEntry can check gimSapState and gimSapLinkState for each SAP to detect a port that has gone administratively or operationally down. Reviewing gimSapRxThruputClass and gimSapTxPacketSize helps confirm whether a SAP's configured throughput class matches expected traffic patterns, and gimSysRouteTable lets an operator verify the module's internal routing configuration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SAP operational/link state
  • SAP type and alias
  • throughput class per SAP
  • transmit packet size setting
  • system route table entries
