What Is CTRON-SSR-POLICY-MIB?

CTRON-SSR-POLICY-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB, per its module description, for controlling Layer 3 and Layer 2 filters (Access Control Lists) and policy-based routing/QoS traffic classification on Cabletron SSR devices, and may also configure static IP routes using extended IP header fields. It exposes grouped policy objects covering Layer 2 (including VLAN/802.1Q bridging filters), Layer 3, and Layer 4 filtering groups, along with Layer 4 statistics and a conformance/compliance section. For monitoring it is used to confirm which ACL/filter policies are active and to review Layer 4 statistics counters that reveal how much traffic is being matched, permitted, or denied by a given filter rule, which is a software/control-plane configuration and traffic-policy health check rather than hardware sensor data. It is built on and extends standard ACL/filtering concepts akin to IETF policy MIBs, layering Cabletron SSR-specific groups on top. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would examine polL2Group, polL3Group, and polL4Group objects to confirm which filter policies are configured at each layer, including polL2Dot1qVlanStaticL4Bridging for VLAN-aware bridging filters combined with Layer 4 matching. The polL4GroupStats objects would be polled to see match/permit/deny counts for a given Layer 4 filter rule, revealing whether an ACL intended to block certain traffic is actually being hit. The polConformance/polCompliances objects describe implementation compliance rather than runtime data, so they would be consulted only to confirm feature support, not polled for live status.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using polL4lowLostRouters OID:

Select a Cabletron/Enterasys Smart Switch Router (SSR) (ACL/policy filtering) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type polL4lowLostRouters into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The count of times routers were disabled from NextHopTable due to lost contact. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
