Category: Quality of Service, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron SFPS policy-based networking rules for traffic classification and QoS enforcement.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-SFPS-POLICY-MIB?

CTRON-SFPS-POLICY-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB managing policy-based networking rules on SecureFast Packet Switch (SFPS) devices, covering traffic classification and QoS enforcement policies distributed from a policy service center. It exposes policy definition objects (name, metric, hash leaf identifier) along with administrative and operational status for each policy plus request/response counters tracking policy distribution activity. For monitoring it lets an operator confirm a given traffic policy is operationally active (not just administratively enabled), track how recently its status changed via a status timestamp, and watch request/response counters to detect policy distribution failures across the SFPS fabric, which is a software/control-plane health indicator distinct from hardware sensors. It depends on the shared CTRON-SFPS-COMMON-MIB for generic version/logging objects and interoperates with CTRON-SFPS-TOPOLOGY-MIB for the underlying network map policies are applied against. It is deployed on Cabletron SecureFast Packet Switches used for centrally managed, policy-driven traffic handling. Engineers can download the CTRON-SFPS-POLICY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-SFPS-POLICY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron SecureFast Packet Switch (SFPS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll sfpsServiceCenterPolicyTable/sfpsServiceCenterPolicyEntry to compare sfpsServiceCenterPolicyAdminStatus against sfpsServiceCenterPolicyOperStatus for a policy named in sfpsServiceCenterPolicyName, catching a policy that is administratively enabled but operationally down. The sfpsServiceCenterPolicyRequests and sfpsServiceCenterPolicyResponses counters would be watched over time to detect a policy service center failing to respond to distribution requests, and sfpsServiceCenterPolicyStatusTime would show how long a policy has been in its current state. The related sfpsMatrixTable would be checked to see how policies map across the switch matrix.

What Can Be Monitored

  • policy admin vs. operational status
  • policy status change timestamp
  • policy request/response counters
  • policy metric and identifying hash
