Category: Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron INB (Internal Network Bus) backplane configuration, bandwidth allocation, and bus utilization.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTINB-MIB?

CTINB-MIB is a Cabletron (Enterasys) enterprise MIB that manages the Internal Network Bus (INB) — the internal high-speed backplane bus connecting modules within a Cabletron chassis-based switch or hub. It exposes configuration objects for backplane bandwidth allocation and utilization statistics across the internal bus fabric. Though centered on internal switch-fabric configuration rather than external interfaces, it functions as a hardware-health/performance monitoring tool, letting an operator watch for backplane congestion or utilization approaching capacity, an early indicator of chassis-level hardware bottlenecks. It complements chassis and slot inventory MIBs such as CTRON-CHASSIS-MIB, since the internal bus links physically installed modules together. This MIB is used in legacy modular Cabletron/Enterasys chassis switches and hubs where multiple line modules share a common backplane. Engineers can download the CTINB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTINB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys modular chassis switch or hub

Monitoring Examples

No object/table names were included in the source data, so a grounded polling walkthrough isn't possible here; conceptually, an administrator would poll backplane bandwidth-allocation and bus-utilization objects for each installed module or slot. A rising utilization value approaching the bus's rated capacity would indicate the backplane is nearing saturation, a precursor to packet loss across the chassis. Because no specific object identifiers were provided, this description is necessarily generic rather than object-referenced.

What Can Be Monitored

  • internal backplane bus utilization
  • bandwidth allocation per module/slot
  • backplane bus capacity
