Category: Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Monitors Compaq/HP ProLiant host operating system resources and software inventory objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CPQHOST2-MIB?

This is a Compaq (later HP) Insight Management Agent MIB for monitoring the host operating-system layer of ProLiant servers, complementing Compaq's hardware-focused health MIBs. It exposes host-OS-level data such as file-system/volume usage, software or process inventory, and operating-system identification, layered above the hardware sensor data covered elsewhere in the CPQHOST/CPQHLTH MIB family. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on software status — OS version/identification, installed software inventory, disk/file-system space, and process status — giving an administrator visibility into the OS layer running above the hardware. It is designed to be used alongside Compaq/HP's hardware health MIBs (e.g. CPQHLTH-MIB) and parallels conventions from the standard host-resources MIB (RFC 2790). It is deployed on Compaq/HP ProLiant servers running Insight Manager agents in enterprise data centers for combined hardware-plus-software server health monitoring. Engineers can download the CPQHOST2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CPQHOST2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Compaq/HP ProLiant server

Monitoring Examples

No sample_objects were supplied for this module; consistent with its description, a realistic use would be polling its file-system/volume table for available disk space and its software-inventory table for installed OS patch or agent versions, flagging low free space or an unexpected software version as an anomaly.

What Can Be Monitored

  • file system / disk volume usage
  • installed software/OS version inventory
  • running process status
