This read-write BitErrRate object provides the threshold for a B2 degrade (B2DEG) bit-error-rate condition on the OCn/STM interface, per its description. An administrator tunes it to control how sensitive the interface is to rising line-level bit errors before raising a degrade alarm. For example, lowering this threshold on a critical long-haul span makes the system flag marginal signal degradation earlier, before it escalates into a hard failure.
