Description: This object allows specification of Policer Coupling Flag. When coupling is enabled, tokens that would normally be added to the C-bucket are passed to the E-bucket only once the CIR bucket has reached its CBS level. Therefore under this condition the E-bucket is being filled at the rate of CIR + EIR. Normally the long term average of frames declared yellow is bounded by the EIR. Coupling is a function to allow the long term average of frames declared yellow to be bounded by CIR + EIR. This allows a higher volume of yellow frames to be delivered/received if the arrival of green marked frames is low. Tokens from the E-bucket do NOT get passed to the C-bucket once the EBS level has been reached. Enabling coupling in combination with a provisioned EIR of 0 allows for a single rate three color marking (srTCM) algorithm to be established. In this situation the E-bucket is filled at the CIR rate in the case the C-bucket is filled to its CBS level.

What is cmQosFlowPolicerCouplingFlag?

This read-create TruthValue enables or disables coupling on a QoS Flow Policer, where enabling it causes tokens that would normally go to the CIR (C) bucket to instead pass to the EIR (E) bucket once the CIR bucket reaches its CBS level, so the E-bucket effectively fills at CIR+EIR while coupling is active. Admins enable coupling when they want the long-term average of yellow-marked traffic to be able to exceed a strict EIR-only bound by reclaiming unused committed-rate capacity, rather than always being tightly bounded by EIR alone. For example, on a policer where committed traffic rarely uses its full CIR, enabling cmQosFlowPolicerCouplingFlag lets the unused committed-rate tokens flow into the excess bucket, allowing more yellow traffic through than the EIR setting alone would otherwise permit.
