An administrator enables this on flow points where color-aware policing matters, so frames exceeding a committed rate get visibly marked as drop-eligible for downstream congestion handling. For example, enabling color marking on a flow point subject to rate metering lets excess traffic be tagged DEI=1 so it can be preferentially dropped under congestion rather than treated the same as in-contract traffic.
