An administrator checks it to pinpoint whether a specific twisted pair inside the cable, rather than the whole cable, is faulty, open, or shorted. For example, seeing an abnormal condition reported only on Pair 1 while the other pairs read normal would point a technician toward a single damaged conductor rather than a full cable replacement.
