An administrator configures this to prevent a customer's spanning tree instance from merging with the provider's own spanning tree across the demarcation, or to allow it through for a managed service. For example, setting this disposition to discard stops customer BPDUs from ever reaching and influencing the provider network's spanning tree topology.
