Admins use this to enforce expected frame formatting from the connected network element, rejecting frame types that shouldn't appear on that port and could indicate misconfiguration upstream. For example, an admin who expects only VLAN-tagged aggregation traffic on a network port would set cmEthernetNetPortAfpType to tagged-only so any stray untagged frames are dropped rather than silently forwarded.
