Description: Sub-unit status is reported in the entries of the principle table in the Group that represents the sub- unit. For sub-units that report a status, there is a status column in the table and the value of this column is always an integer formed in the following way. The SubUnitStatus is an integer that is the sum of 5 distinct values, Availability, Non-Critical, Critical, On-line, and Transitioning. These values are: Availability value Available and Idle 0 000'b Available and Standby 2 010'b Available and Active 4 100'b Available and Busy 6 110'b Unavailable and OnRequest 1 001'b Unavailable because Broken 3 011'b Unknown 5 101'b Non-Critical No Non-Critical Alerts 0 Non-Critical Alerts 8 Critical No Critical Alerts 0 Critical Alerts 16 On-Line Intended state is On-Line 0 Intended state is Off-Line 32 Transitioning At intended state 0 Transitioning to intended state 64 Additional information: This object is for use by the I/O card only. After telling the peripheral how many logical channels will be used, the MIO card tells the printer the status of each of the channels. The status can change from time to time. The status information is passed using the channelStatus object. Values are saved by the peripheral and reported when users request the value of prtChannelStatus.
What is channelstatus?
This write-only object lets an MIO network card report the composite SubUnitStatus value for a logical channel, an integer built by summing distinct Availability, Non-Critical, Critical, On-line, and Transitioning status components. An admin does not set this directly, but understanding its bitfield-like composition explains why the read-only channel status a management station later queries can represent multiple simultaneous conditions, such as being both on-line and reporting a non-critical alert. For example, an MIO card experiencing a minor recoverable fault while still online would write a status value combining the On-line and Non-Critical components rather than a single simple code.
